Project Leader: Professor Adisa Azapagic
Project Duration: April 2024 - March 2028.
Funding Source: Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education Agency (LPDP)
This project considers the life cycle sustainability of integrated water and salt production from seawater through a prism of the water-energy-salt nexus. This is a first study focused on evaluating the environmental, economic, and social aspects of an integrated system of water and salt production while considering the interaction between water, salt, and energy. The aim is to get a better perspective on a feasible integrated system to produce salt and freshwater that is environmentally benign, economically efficient, and socially acceptable. Various desalination and salt production technologies will be assessed. The findings will be used to guide the industry and policy makers towards the implementation of more sustainable water and salt production in Indonesia.
