Project Leader: Professor Adisa Azapagic
Project Duration: September 2024 - September 2027.
Funding Source: Turkish Ministry of National Education
This project aims to evaluate the life cycle environmental and economic sustainability of green hydrogen production pathways in the UK. Using a life cycle sustainability assessment framework, the study considers hydrogen production via water electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources, such as wind, and solar photovoltaics, as well as hydrogen production from biomass-based routes. The project also compares these technologies with conventional hydrogen production methods to highlight the potential environmental and economic advantages of green hydrogen. The findings will provide evidence-based recommendations to guide industry, policy makers and other stakeholders in advancing the sustainable deployment of green hydrogen with the aim of supporting the UK’s net-zero ambitions.
