PhD Project Details

Project Leader: Professor Adisa Azapagic

Project Duration: October 2021 - September 2024.

Project Overview

The main aim of the project is to assess whether and how carbon neutrality in the electricity sector can be achieved in China in environmentally and economically sustainable ways by 2050. Using a life cycle approach, the project will: assess life cycle environmental and economic impacts of current electricity technologies in China; identify potential future technologies required to meet the net-zero target and suitable for the Chinese context and assess their life cycle environmental and economic impacts; assess the environmental and economic impacts of various electricity-mix scenarios proposed by different organisations and defined during this research, aimed at the carbon neutrality target in China; and identify hotspots and improvement opportunities and make recommendations for decisions and policy-making towards the carbon neutrality target.
